Overall Progress on Goal

Action Step 1:
Implement a comprehensive communication plan to publicize campus events.

Progress Overall
Summary of why level was chosen

IT is in the process of creating an online calendar but this implementation is not complete. Still waiting for training from IT. Also, have not heard from Caperton Center in terms of using their signage program. Have been productive in other areas.

While a calendar program has been purchased, it has not been implemented. This appears to be a result of a number of issues, including needing to train 10 different people to manage a single calendar. Information on using the student center screens is apparently available, but not being utilized.

Recommendations, concerns,
and/or difficulties encountered

Still have difficulties getting all units on campus to work cooperative as a team in terms of communication. Need a better system for working with outside vendors for publicity and advertisement.

Many problems seem to be stemming from a lack of communication/priority on the part of those involved. The calendar training needs to become a priority and the information on using the screens in the Falcon Center and Caperton needs to be disseminated to all faculty, staff, and student organizations.

Action Step 2:
Develop expectations and incentives for student, faculty, and staff participation in co-curricular events.

Progress Overall
Summary of why level was chosen

The campus overall is not fully engaged in the significance of co-curricular events. A new culture needs to be cultivated where the holistic approach to students is encouraged.

While opportunities are available for participation, there is minimal engagement in co-curricular activities and only from a small percentage of the faculty.

Recommendations, concerns,
 and/or difficulties encountered

We have written the words but we are not sure that the campus community has bought into the concept that co-curricular events enhances the educational experience. The concept of working together to provide outside of the classroom opportunities is new and still causes some hesitation by some areas.

The main problem seems to be an almost adversarial community on campus between faculty, students and administration. Cultivating a more cooperative campus community would go a long way toward creating an environment that is more open to trying new concepts and approaches for everyone involved.

Action Step 3:
Expand and diversify student authority and responsibility for programming and delivery of co-curricular events.

Progress Overall
Summary of why level was chosen

Students are heavily involved for programming and delivery of co-curriculum events.

There is student involvement in the programming and delivery.

Recommendations, concerns,
 and/or difficulties encountered

We need to find ways to get people to attend open forums and to complete surveys that help us make decisions of what programs to provide. More involvement from the academic side in encouraging students to attend events and more participation of faculty and staff. A better understanding of the importance of co-curricular events.

There is concern that the general student body may not know how to become more involved with the planning and that the students involved may not be representative of the campus community. More outreach to the overall student body should be explored.
